I personally knew and served with MSG Van Aalst at 3/75 RGR RGT. During a 2004 deployment in support of OEF, he was our battalion’s sniper section platoon sergeant. Then, SFC Van Aalst and one of his sniper teams was attached to our platoon. He was a tough, intelligent, upstanding Ranger NCO who embodied the Ranger Creed. There’s a reason why an outstanding Ranger such as himself left the Ranger Regiment to do bigger things. Although that particular deployment was years ago, I still remember him as well as it like yesterday. RLTW??
